composition: Op. 63 No. 3, Mazurka in C# minor

..

In GE the notation of the rhythm in bars 34 and 38 was clarified by adding rests under the e-a minims. A failed attempt at the clarification of voice leading was also undertaken in EEW – these minims were written in two-part writing, which, at best, obscured the picture, since the top voice includes 3 crotchets, while the alleged bottom one – four. In the main text we keep the original version of FE

a-a-g slur, our alternative suggestion

..

There are several possible interpretations of the inaccurately drawn slur of FE, encompassing the first two L.H. top voice crotchets. Two of them can be seen in GE and EEW; we give a third one as an alternative suggestion. We assume that the most likely interpretation of this slur is the version adopted by GE, that is with a slur encompassing entire bar 39.

L.H. chords in FE (→GE)

a in L.H. in EEW

..

In EEW the bottom notes of the L.H. chords (a) were separated from the remaining ones, written down on the top stave, which thus seem to belong to the R.H. part. Perhaps it contributed to the omission of the  to g1 at the beginning of the bar – looking only at the alleged R.H. part on the top stave, one could assume that g1 would be more natural for the harmonic course.

In the main text we add a cautionary  to B, as it was performed in GE2 (→GE3) and EEW.

In FE there is no  raising f1 to f1 in the L.H. chord. The mistake, probably present already in [A], remained unnoticed, in spite of several proofreading rounds of FE. However, it was corrected both in GE and EEW. In the main text we add a cautionary  to a.
